Please email me at chris@theopologetics.com if you would like me to add or clarify my position on some topic to this list, or if you think there may be a better way to present this information (as for now I’ve just sort of listed in stream-of-consciousness style).
- Positions I hold, the rejection of which I consider heresy:
- I believe in the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity and the dual nature of Christ.
- I believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from works.
- I believe in the future Second Advent of Christ and bodily resurrection of all the dead.
- Positions I hold, the rejection of which I do not consider heresy:
- I believe in the inerrancy of the (Protestant) Bible, as described by the Chicago statement on inerrancy.
- I believe in the five so-called points of Calvinism.
- I believe the bulk of biblical prophecy typically attributed to the future Second Advent was fulfilled in our past.
- I believe the millennium of Revelation 20 is the period of time between (approximately) AD 70 and the future Second Advent.
- I believe that the Church is not Israel, who remain the biological descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- I believe the earth is approximately 6,000 years old, and that all “kinds” of life were created in the first six, 24-hour days.
- I believe that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is the saving, indwelling of the Holy Spirit experienced by all believers.
- I believe that the biblical gift of “tongues” was the supernatural ability to speak human languages one had not already learned.
- I believe that the unsaved, after rising to judgement according to their deeds, will be punished by being utterly destroyed forever. (Conditionalism or annihilationism a la Edward Fudge.)
- I believe this life presents the only opportunity for repentance and belief in Jesus Christ.
- I believe that unbelievers will at the Second Advent experience the second death and be separated from God for eternity.
- I hold a non-reductive physicalist or monistic philosophy of mind (a la Dr. Glenn Peoples).
- Positions I’m considering:
- I lean slightly toward an egalitarian view of women in ministry (a la Dr. Philip Payne).
- I tend to favor a presuppositional approach apologetics, such as promoted by Sye Ten Bruggencate.
- I lean toward belief that the miraculous gifts of the Spirit continue to operate to this day, rather than ceased centuries ago.
