Episode 110: My Substitute

My friend Dr. Steve Jeffery, minister of Emmanuel Evangelical Church in Southgate, North London, joins me for part two of our discussion of Penal Substitutionary Atonement as a follow-up to his recent discussion on “Unbelievable?” radio, a doctrine he and his co-authors defend in Pierced for Our Transgressions: Rediscovering the Glory of Penal Substitution.

  1. Two comments:

    1) Always impressed with Steve’s precision, accuracy, and carefulness in theological reflection! My postmillennial heart sang with him too when he talked about the cosmic implications of Christ’s atoning work 😉

    2) I used the very same kind of illustration as Matt Slick’s that you mentioned in my own defense of PSA against some who were bringing up the same objection several years ago! I think the Trinity helps out a lot there.

    Great show!

  2. “For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.” Rom. 2:13
